Chasing the SU-99 from Butler to Vernon, NJ

This video was shot at 4 spots between Butler and Vernon, New Jersey

I’ve been wanting to do Vernon Crossing Road for a while, so my buddy John asked if i wanted to chase it up there, agreeing to it, we set up, starting off in Butler. Due to the compressed time between spots, i would not have time to get my tri-pod ready, so the first 3 videos are shaky, i apologize about that.

Crossing #1 (Hamburg Turnpike, Butler):

Signal #1: 2 pairs of Safetran 12×24 lights and a WC Hayes mechanical bell

Signal #2: 2 pairs of Safetran 12×24 lights and a Safetran mechanical bell

Crossing #2: (Echo Lake Road, West Milford):

Signal #1: 2 pairs of WC Hayes12x20 inch lights, 1 pair of Safetran 12×20 inch lights and a Safetran Mechanical Bell

Signal #2: 2 pairs of WC Hayes12x20 inch lights, 1 pair of Safetran 12×20 inch lights and Modern Industries mechancial bell

This crossing also has a preemption cycle. The traffic light seen before the crossing activates ONLY when there is a train approaching. The cycle starts by a flashing yellow light, followd by a steady yellow and then a steady red

Once this happens, the traffic light after the crossing will turn green to clear any cars off the crossing, then the crossing signals activate and the light after the crossing will go back to a normal cycle.
