The Dragon Boat Carnival or Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Race is a yearly mega-event and major tourist attraction of Hong Kong. It happens either June or July every year. This year’s race was held at the Central Harbourfront last June 2-4, 2017 with the Central skylines as the spectacular backdrop.
Amidst the scorching heat of the sun was a festive environment of live music, food, drinks, parade, and a bunch of spectators from all over the world.
Froi and I were just in time to witness the International Paradragon Championship round wherein the Philippines won as the Champion! Truly a Pinoy pride for it was the first gold medal ever the Philippines got for the Paradragon category. Here are some of the clips of the winning moment of PADS Adaptive Dragonboat Racing Team from Cebu which was a heartwarming victory for a very proud kababayan and Cebuana here.
After nine months of training, the Philippine Accessible Disability Services represented the Philippines as the first-ever cross-disability dragon boat racing team with a strong belief that they race to win and that their combined disabilities are their greatest strength.
The team is composed entirely of persons with disabilities, i.e., the deaf, blind, amputees, and polio survivors. But they were all making a history in Philippine Dragon Boat Sports. They have just proven that a disability is never a hindrance to pursuing a dream or a passion and to winning in life… no matter what it takes.
Congratulations Team Philippines! Truly, you are all making us proud! Ika nga ninyo, “For the flag, for the country, for PWD.”
