A United Kingdom town is rolling out a new type of traffic light system aimed at discouraging speeders. Signals in Swindon will turn red when a car travelling above a certain velocity approaches. Road sensors detect how fast cars are moving ,and trigger the red lights based on a preset speed limit. Cameras will be able to identify emergency vehicles by their license plates, ensuring they are not ensnared. Similar systems have already been instituted in parts of Spain and Portugal.
