This tutorial is a step by step guide to simulating traffic using SUMO and OpenStreetMap data.
You will need to understand how to navigate windows using the command prompt. See below for acquiring those skills.

Install notepad++ (or your favorite text editor)
Install Python
Install SUMO
Download OSM data
Copy additional polygons

run start-command-line.bat
netconvert –osm-files map.osm -o map.net.xml
polyconvert –net-file map.net.xml –osm-files map.osm –type-file typemap.xml -o map.poly.xml

Copy and edit config file (test.sumo.cfg) ——> map.sumo
