How to Update or Refinish Cabinets & Woodwork with Light Paint Color using a Sprayer

From GF University at www.GeneralFinishes.com, a snappy tutorial on how to refresh the look of your home by spray painting existing cabinets and woodwork with light paint. Take 3 minutes to learn how to spray paint, achieving a successful result (good adhesion and a durable finish) on existing cabinets. Always “Power Prep Clean” high use areas such a kitchen cabinets or table tops, (anywhere there is heavy “hand traffic”, accumulated oils or grime).
Here is a schedule for GF Power Prep:
1. Scrub with a strong degreasing detergent first and rinse thoroughly.
2. Second scrub with 50|50 mix of denatured alcohol and water.
3. Light sanding with a 220-300 sanding pad (our preferred method) or #400 grit sandpaper.
4. Two coats of Stain Blocker to prevent stain, tannin or aniline dye bleed-through before painting.
5.Apply 3 coats of GF Milk Paint.

Although we use many kinds of spray equipment at General Finishes, we show how well the affordable Earlex 5500 Spray System performs – a great way to walk into the world of smoother finishes and faster production times. We sprayed with a 2.0mm (0.08″) stainless steel tip and needle.
