Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Take Action – Don’t be indifferent! JDRF has a special committee for young T1D people around the country. YLC is a young leadership organization for diabetics aged 21 to 40. Carling Nolan, LPGA golfer and JDRF Young Leadership Committee national celebrity advocate joined the committee after college. She says that YLC helps her to keep in touch with people of the same problems as she has – with T1D young people. YLC organizes wonderful parties and amazing fundraising events and Nolan says that almost every city around the country has such committee. Everyone can contact JDRF chapter and check his locality for YLC. Some call Cedar City “Gateway to the National Parks” because it’s one hour from Zion, 90 minutes from Bryce Canyon and 3 hours from Capitol Reef or the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Buy a National Parks Pass and set up base camp in Cedar. Then, when you get tired of those (Ha!), expand your net and explore places like Cedar Breaks National Monument, only 30 minutes away in the heart of the Dixie National Forest. Others call it “Festival City, USA.” Because it has a lot of festivals. For Shakespeare, for livestock, for music, for wild flowers, for classic cars and films. There’s a bike race, a summer sports competition, a rodeo, and a Christmas parade of storybook characters. Type 1 diabetes (Juvenile Diabetes) is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the sugars and starches you eat into a simple sugar called glucose, which it uses for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives. JDRF is focused on bringing life-changing therapies from the lab to the community by impacting every stage of the drug delivery pipeline. Working the pipeline to expedite and sustain meaningful scientific progress, made possible by our donors, is the key to delivering progressively advanced therapies. This means:
- Driving research across the entire scientific and development spectrum, from discovery in the laboratory to delivery in patients
- Collaborating with public, private, academic and corporate partners to expedite delivery of real-world solutions
- Advocating for progress that will improve lives today and lead to a cure tomorrow JDRF is uniquely positioned to create a future without T1D.
