Mumbai Traffic Intersection – No road rage.

Standing on a pedestrian bridge looking over a standard intersection in Mumbai, India – the cars, Tuk Tuks, bikes and people start to build up – there are traffic lights – but they are almost ignored as people just push in at the front of the queue. Traffic is forced in to two lanes – pedestrians are always crossing.

But westerners (I am mostly meaning New Zealanders here) – there is NO ROAD RAGE. A lot of tooting to let people know they are there but it’s not aggressive.

We had a pretty funny Taxi ride that had a total of 3 light accidents – in one 30 minute ride to downtown – they just get out – have a small yelling match and then carry on. The taxis are hard – sturdy and you can just punch a dent out from the inside and they are fine again. It’s a wonder to behold – manic. But instead of people being uptight about it – it does seem they are more relaxed.

Cut me off? Who cares. Block me in? No worries. Push in? Well I would too. Wrong way? Doesn’t matter.

I wish western (New Zealand) drivers would relax – they are so aggressive at times.

It’s time to chill and be happy :D We have nice cars, nice roads and lots of space. So why complain? Be kind to your fellow drivers. Just like they do in the crazy roads of India and South East Asia – consideration across the nation.
