Outdated Brockton website traffic signal box bought by metropolis for $sixty eight

BROCKTON — A $one,980 website traffic signal control box at the centre of a scrap steel theft circumstance was scrapped once again by the metropolis immediately after officials re claimed it.
“We uncovered it was aluminum truly worth fifty cents a pound, and so it was weighed and cashed in for $sixty eight,” said Lt. Edward Williams, a metropolis fire investigator.
Peter Tupper, the city’s assistant superintendent of fire alarms, cashed in the box as scrap steel at Eco Recycling Devices Inc. at 195 Mulberry St., Williams said.
Tupper will flip the money about to the Targeted visitors Commission, Williams said.
It was the 2nd time the box was sent to the scrap heap.
A metropolis man was billed before this week with thieving the control box from the Central Fire Station parking lot at forty two Pleasurable St. Tues working day afternoon.
Law enforcement billed Erik Alton Grahn, 25, of 59 Fuller St., Brockton, with larceny about $250 and trespassing with a motor auto.
Grahn acquired $eleven in money for the initial transaction, police said. The metropolis acquired much more money for the box immediately after it was uncovered to be built of aluminum, officials said.
Lt. John Crowley said not saving the box as evidence may perhaps not be detri mental to the circumstance.
The BCI unit of the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office took photos of the box, police said.
