[PEREKA2012] Portable Online Programmer for Public Traffic Light System



Inefficiencies of conventional traffic control system in Malaysia to cope with high density of traffic flows give rise to deliberate traffic congestion problem. Thus, advanced systems have been introduced to improve the ‘intelligence’ of conventional traffic lights systems via integration of traffic flow sensors to gather information for traffic control algorithm. However, with existing traffic sensors installed near to the traffic intersections, the advanced systems lack in the ability to ‘foresee’ the incoming traffic flow. This project proposes a portable wireless device that is able to retrieve traffic information distanced from the traffic intersection, providing the traffic control system an eyesight into the near future traffic information for further control purposes. The device also enables emergency vehicles such as, ambulances and fire engines to interrupt and alter the existing traffic signal for the emergency vehicles’ fluency and safety.
