Shelford School Driving and Parking Carnage

The parking outside this school sickens me! which is why I have to post this.

Parents / guardians who park outside this school at this time of day – THIS IS AIMED AT YOU!!!! – READ, WATCH and ACT!

I have already passed 4 schools and driven 27 miles when I come across this morning parking carnage, and this is a reasonably good day to get passed in under 5 minutes, it is usually 15-20 minutes to get passed in school term time and 1 minute or less in school holidays – hmmm I wonder what causes the blockages??!!!

This is what selfish parking on a narrow road outside a village school and church in the height of the morning rush does to the traffic flow. This has been going on for years and it brings this part of the village to a complete standstill and gridlock and has a real knock on effect into the busy Woollards Lane – ask any local resident or shop owner down there.

It just adds insult to commuters trying to get to work in South Cambs. It creates obstructions, road rage and bad decision making by drivers and cyclists plus contending with the unpredicability of parents pulling out / turning after sometimes parking facing the wrong way up the road and also dodging commuter cycles and motorbikes trying to get through – You really need eyes in the back of your head for all the stupidity that this causes.

This could “all” be allieviated by parents parking in the allocated “off-road” car park in the recreation ground car park and “walking” 100 metres to the school using the dedicated zebra crossing. Is it too much to ask?

I have had to edit out sound due to my colourful metaphorical language in this example. You want more I can give you plenty more examples of mornings at this location.

Location: Great Shelford
Time: 08.57
Solutions:
1) All parents to park in the recreation ground car park and walk
2) create a dedicated off road parking flow area at the school
3) Tickets given on all those parking on yellow lines at school rush times – if there are enough police / PCSOs around of course
