Smart Traffic Ligth

Vehicular travel is increasing throughout the world, particularly in large urban areas. Therefore the need arises for simulating and optimizing traffic control algorithms to better accommodate this increasing demand. In this project we study the simulation and of traffic light controllers in a different situations (4 or 3 or 2 intersections). We have implemented a traffic light simulator, Green Light District that allows us to experiment different infrastructures and to compare different traffic light algorithms.
We also have built a prototype of our design based on our simulator that depends on using technology devices to support the target, like PIC Microcontroller which can be programmed with more than one software like MikroBasic, MikroC, MPLAB and others; each has its advantages and disadvantages, PIC Microcontroller will be the brain of the system, on the first stage PIC16F877A will be sufficient but in advanced stages it will be necessary to use PIC from 18 OR 24 family.
Wireless communication take apart in this work by using ZigBee protocol implemented using XBee chips, Compared to other wireless protocols, the ZigBee protocol offers low complexity, reduced resource requirements and most importantly, a standard set of specifications. It also offers three frequency bands of operation along with a number of network configurations and optional security capability.
The benefits of building such system reduces the number of traffic accidents; the wait time that spent on roads because of traffic congestion and replace the static systems with smart one could improve itself based on the circumstances surrounding, so it will get the best decision all the time.
