This is some Pike Level Crossing Wigwags which are located on the Bluewater Pkwy Road in the grounds of the Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent.
In among the many car parks holding 12,000 car parking spaces in one of the biggest shopping centres in Kent are some UK Pike LED Wigwags which are randomly placed along a road with an entrance to an underground loading facility for loads.
I managed to find these a while ago and so this time took a couple of shots of the LED Wigwags up-front.
I have no exact idea of why they are there since this road is quiet and the volume of traffic is low. The if not only reason I can think of why they are here is because of wide loads which need a lot of room to turn into what looks like the Glow Theatre Loading and Unloading depot, hence the yellow boxes on the road. Clearly, one wigwag each side should be enough.
The stop lines are too far forward past the wigwags so cars won’t be able to stop and see the lights properly. There are some Stop When Lights Show signs with no triangular warning sign or any description of what is ahead but simply the text Stop When Lights Show. One of these signs has been turned around (more likely man-power than the wind).
I am certain these wigwags do not get used a lot at all. I stood around the area for at least 30 minutes and there was no sign or movement of any lorries in the underground depot or any passing this road either. You have to be quite lucky to catch anything.
These wigwags are made by Pike and have LED lights. Nothing explains the massive black back they have or the steel plates which have to hold the massive thing onto a very fat pole.
