Female was driving Mitsubishi Outlander with Iowa plate AOK 079 at City High parking lot in Iowa City, Iowa, on Tuesday, August 30th.
The second she turned on her left indicator she aggressively moved into my lane as I was in the act of passing her.
When you’re being passed, especially in a busy parking lot, you should turn on your indicator and then wait and look to see if anybody is passing you or is nearby.
Waiting a few seconds to determine where everybody is before changing lanes is prudent behavior and will cut down on the risk of fender benders and small accidents.
Luckily, I was paying attention, but not everybody is! Many people in parking lots are doing everything but driving and are distracted: talking on a cell phone, making a call on a cell phone, listening to the radio, eating or drinking something, etc.
After she got into the flow of traffic, you’ll see that she failed to use her indicator on a left turn in the parking lot and also when exiting the parking lot onto Morningside Drive. She also drove in the middle of a one-way exit that is designed to be “two lanes” to ease congestion – one for left-turning traffic and one for right-turning traffic.
