Traffic lights – a theory



I’ve had experiences similar to this in York before, but no video to promote the idea. Basically, every time there’s a set of traffic lights out, people tend to be a damnsight more courteous, and traffic tends to flow freely (for the mostpart). With the traffic lights turned on this junction takes around 90 seconds to pass through, whereas turned off you can see I manage it in less than 19.
Now forgive me if I’m wrong, but the government needs to save money… so, in the quieter periods (ie, between 7pm and 7am) would it not make sense to turn all traffic lights off? Especially if it makes life easier, as here
