MetroLib: the future “Gabonese Smart Transport”
Project background:

The traffic in the city of Libreville (Gabon’s Political Capital ) and its surroundings has critically increased over the years with a major impact on the economic activity in the country.
The construction of an automated light rail in Libreville (MetroLib) is a credible alternative public transport mode to car-users, to attract private car-users to the Metro and to improve the traffic flow in the Gabonese capital and its surroundings.
Project Objectives:

• To improve the traffic flow in Libreville and its surroundings;
• To meet future increases of traffic, allowing the connection of the Light Automated Metro lines to the other transport systems (buses, taxis, etc.);
• To serve as a support medium transportation for roads to the coastal area of Libreville where a high population density exists and to communicate with various destinations, such as Pointe Denis Island, where a strong urban and tourism growth is expected.
MetroLib features:

- Light Automated Cars (LAC), commonly used in international airports;
- 4G / LTE and WiFi Networks available in the cars and Rail Stations;
- LED Screens for the dissemination of information in the Cars and Stations ;
- Traffic Monitoring System;
- CCTV cameras in the Cars and Stations, etc.
Project contributions:

• The implementation of the Automated Metro in Libreville will improve the traffic flow in the capital and its surroundings.
• The project will have the following impacts:
1. Social: enabling all social strata to access to the public transport safely and inexpensively;
2. Economic:
- allowing the active population, students and pupils to get to their working places as well as to their schools at the conventional hours;
- creation of more than 5,000 jobs;
3. Diplomatic: enhancing the image of Gabon internationally.
