Yoann Gini – Efficient IT documentation with LaTeX

This session will be a quick and deep introduction to LaTeX with one goal: use it for IT documentation.
Pages, Words, Excel, Numbers… Those tools aren’t made to be efficient, they are made to handle all possible scenarios you will ever imagine. Writing an IT documentation takes a lot of time, and if you’re a consultant it might be a time difficult to sell. Using tools specially crafted for quick writing without any care for esthetics will allow you to be more efficient than ever.

LaTeX might look like an obscure tool used only by weird scientists, but used correctly it will empower your documentation skills and allow you to generate almost 90% of the documentation on the fly.

Write your installation notes directly in the LaTeX file, use a template to enforce proper documentation with all info included.

Covered topics in this talk will be:
— custom template to match your graphical identity
— sharing all common info and processes (company intro, documentation for AutoPKGr and MunkiAdmin, etc.)
— ensure all info are here with common pattern for servers, network devices, etc.
— enforce confidentiality with simple to use Traffic Light Protocol headers and footers
— store passwords in secure DMG
— export to PDF with password if DMG is mounted or [REDACTED] black label if not

Session is mainly demo based and kickstart content will be provided on github.
